Where is Tahiti? It’s an island that is part of a group of Islands called French Polynesia in the Pacific ocean. They are famous for their underwater world and beaches! Many tourists visit these islands to go diving.
Last Saturday, a flight took off from the capital city of Papeete and it traveled 9,765 miles (15,715 km) to Paris, France. To put that in perspective it flew over part of the Pacific Ocean, over North America, then over the Atlantic Ocean and landed in France!
This one time flight set the record for the longest passenger flight by distance! A regular flight from Singapore to Newark, New Jersey, covers 9,534 miles (15,343 km) holds the longest distance.
The Papeete – Paris route won’t be a regular occurrence. The Tahiti-to-France route was a one-time trip to help Tahitian citizens get home safely during the Coronavirus outbreak! The flight usually stops in Los Angeles, California, but had to fly non-stop because of new travel rules in the United States.
Because of COVID-19 flight restrictions, Air Tahiti Nui is operating its service to Paris non-stop from Papeete—without its normal stop at LAX.
