James Comey was Director of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) in the United States. He held this position from 2013 until 9 May, 2017, when President Donald Trump fired him in a surprise move. The timing was really strange as it happened while Comey was in the midst of investigating if there was any interaction between Trump’s team and the Russians during the time of the US elections.
It is thought that the Russians may have meddled in US elections by anonymously leaking potentially damaging evidence against Trump’s main competitor, Hillary Clinton. The negative news that came out hurt Hillary’s chances at the Presidency and benefitted Donald Trump.
Comey is now going to testify in front of the US Senate on 8 June, 2017, on what his investigation had showed him before he was fired. So did Trump’s team have a deal with Russians, and what did they promise the Russians in return for this action? And did President Trump fire the FBI Director because he didn’t want to be investigated any further? We will have to wait until 8 June to get a few more clues!
