Anak Krakatau is an active volcano in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra. This volcano erupted on December 22, 2018. On December 23, 2018, a tsunami hit the coastal parts of Java and Sumatra. It is thought that the volcanic eruption caused large pieces of the volcano to fall into the ocean in a landslide, and that this caused the tsunami. Some people are still missing, but so far, this tsunami has killed an estimated 430 people, and displaced more than 11,000 people from their homes. It is thought that the volcano might erupt again, so people are being asked to keep away from certain coastal areas.
