Nadal and Bianca overcome stiff competition to win the top prize at the US Open

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev played an unorthodox game and put up a challenging fight against World No. 2 Rafael Nadal.

Nadal was coasting at two sets when Medvedev stepped up his game to force a decider. The match lasted four hours and 50 minutes and eventually, Nadal’s fighting spirit overcame Medvedev’s challenge and he beat him 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4.

Nadal’s victory on Sunday night makes it his 19th Men’s Grand Slam victory which is just one less than that of rival Roger Federer’s tally of 20 Grand Slam victories.

A visibly emotional Nadal said, “It has been one of the most emotional nights in my tennis career. It has been an amazing final. It has been a crazy match.”

Russian Tennis player Medvedev only 23 was a gracious loser and walked around the net to affectionately congratulate his opponent.

Bianca Andreescu, the 19 year old Canadian who surprised everyone to beat tennis legend Serena Williams in straight sets 6-3, 7-, wasn’t even born when Williams won the US Open for the first time in 1999!

She held her nerve through the 1 hour 40 min match to defeat the defending champion and clinch her first Grand Slam title.

She also became the first Canadian to win a major Grand Slam Single title. The young girl said, “I’ve been visualizing ever since I was 12 or 13 when my amazing mother introduced me to it. I find it very helpful … I believe we create our reality with our mind.”

Following her US open victory Bianca Andreescu has climbed 100 spots in the women’s tennis rankings to a career-high world No. 5.
