It’s that time of the year again when cricketers from around the world forget about their national duties and enjoy club cricket. The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League starts on Saturday, March 23, with a match between defending champions, Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. Here are the top 5 teams of this competition that you need to watch out for:

- Delhi Capitals
With a new name and new look, the Delhi Capitals will be looking to change their fortunes. After playing as the Delhi Daredevils for 11 seasons, the side will now be known as the Delhi Capitals. Shreyas Iyer is the captain of the side that boasts of talented batsmen like Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada & Ishant Sharma will lead the bowling attack. The team looks good on paper. The Capitals also have a great support staff that includes World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting & ‘Dada’ Sourav Ganguly as the team’s mentor.

- Royal Challengers Bangalore
For 11 years, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have always started as one of the preseason favourites. The Virat Kohli led side is full of superstars, but they have failed to win the IPL crown. Kohli has said that luck is not what helps you win, but crucial mistakes have ensured a loss for the team in the past. The team has plenty of big names like Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali & Tim Southee as their overseas stars. Expect Bangalore to put up a ‘Royal Challenge’ this time around.
6⃣ Days to go!

- Kolkata Knight Riders
The Knight Riders are two-time IPL champions and one of the most consistent sides in the tournament’s history. They’ve qualified for the playoffs 6 times and that’s what makes this team very dangerous. Led by Dinesh Karthik, KKR is very strong on paper. Their side boasts of stars like Carlos Brathwaite, Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa & Nitish Rana. One of the fan favourites, KKR are always in contention to win the championship.
— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) March 19, 2019
- Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians, the team from the financial capital of the country, has won the IPL three times. Led by Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians are one of the strongest sides in the competition. With all-rounders like Hardik & Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard, the team has a very good chance to win the trophy for the 4th time. Mumbai have also got the services of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh who can still pack a punch.
— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) March 17, 2019
- Chennai Super Kings
Three-time champions, the Chennai Super Kings, are without a doubt the best in the competition. The team has qualified for playoffs every year that it has played the IPL and is the most consistent team. MS Dhoni leads the yellow army, and the team boasts of the best fans in the country. The team has the right bunch of experience and youth with faces like Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu & Shane Watson. After being suspended for 2 years from the competition for spot-fixing, CSK had a fairytale return last year as they won their 3rd IPL title.
