The Men in Blue at the World Cup!

Going into the 2019 Cricket World Cup, hosted by England and Wales, Team India were the overwhelming favourites. The 2-time Champions were right on the money in their first 2 games of the tournament. After beating South Africa in Southampton, India also beat defending champions Australia by 36 runs at the Oval on Sunday, June 9. Here are 5 reasons why India are the favourites to win the title.

  1. Hardik Pandya’s all-round capabilities

All-rounders like Hardik Pandya come once in a lifetime and this time around with Pandya’s services, India have a brilliant chance to win a 3rd World title in 50-over cricket. Pandya with the bat is as ferocious as anyone else can be but what ads to his brilliance are his fast bowling abilities. Pandya provides the team with a crucial all-round option and with a high-reliability factor, the Baroda all-rounder is an asset to the team.

  1. Rohit & Dhawan’s opening partnership

Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan started opening for Team India during the 2013 Champions Trophy, and since then, the pair has scored thousands of runs together. The opening partnership will be very crucial for the team as it provides the perfect platform to launch a big total which will come in plenty on the flat tracks in England.

  1. Dhoni’s experience behind the stumps

He might be smashing the ball to all corners of the ground but MS Dhoni’s real experience comes into play when the spinners come into action. Virat might be the captain of the team but the real leader behind the stumps is MS Dhoni. With Dhoni setting the field, Virat is a relaxed captain and his lightning-quick responses behind the stumps is an asset to the team. According to reports, this might be MS Dhoni’s last World Cup and a perfect end to a glorious career will be when he lifts the trophy at the Lord’s on 14th of July.

  1. Virat Kohli’s batting

No other batsman in modern times has dominated like Virat Kohli. With many centuries and memorable wins under his belt, Virat will be a force to reckon with at the World Cup. With a little help from Dhoni when it comes to captaincy duties, Virat can now focus on batting solely as he has the capabilities to take India to a World Cup triumph.

  1. Bowling Attack

After a very long time, the Indian bowling unit is stronger than the batting department. World’s number 1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah leads the attack which also has the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami and spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian bowling attack appears to be far superior to any other side at the World Cup.

What happens next?

India has already raked in 2 wins from as many games. The team next plays New Zealand on Thursday 13th June before the big match against Pakistan on Sunday 16th June. All Team India matches start at 3 pm so make sure that you are ready to cheer for the men in blue.
