Quique Setien suffers first loss as Barcelona coach

Barcelona suffered a shock 2-0 loss at the hands of Valencia on Sunday. This game knocked them off the top of La Liga. The loss also was the first one for new manager Quique Setien who took over just 2 weeks ago. As a result, Real Madrid has leapfrogged the defending champions to the top of La Liga as the race to the title gets hotter.

 

FA Cup: United, City win big, Liverpool held to a draw

The two teams from Manchester, City & United won their 4th round fixtures in the FA Cup with ease. United thrashed Tranmere Rovers FC 6-0 while City eased past Fulham 4-0. Premier League leaders Liverpool suffered a shock 2-2 draw at the hands of Shrewsburry as they are forced into a replay of the same on 5th February.

 

Coco Gauff’s Australian Open run ends

American teenager Coco Gauff’s fairytale run at the Australian Open ended in the 4th round when the 15-year-old lost to compatriot Sofia Kenin. Kenin won the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-0. Gauff ended in tears after losing the match as she looked all set to take her dream run further. Earlier in the tournament, the teenager stunned former World number 1 Venus Williams and defending champion Naomi Osaka.

 

Team India’s Republic day gift to the nation

Team India took a 2-0 lead in the 5-match T20 series vs New Zealand in Auckland. The 2nd match of the series saw the Indian bowlers put up a masterclass on Sunday as they stopped New Zealand at 132/5 in 20 overs. A below-par total considering the Kiwis scored more than 200 in the previous game at the same venue. The target was chased down with ease as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer starred with the bat. The 3rd match of the series will be played on Wednesday in Hamilton.

 

Kobe Bryant dies in a chopper crash

5-time NBA Champion and widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash on Sunday in California. Bryant was traveling in her personal chopper along with his daughter and 7 others, all of them are confirmed dead by the local police. Kobe played for Los Angeles Lakers for 20 years and won 2 Olympic Gold Medals with Team USA. He is survived by his wife and 3 daughters.
