Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl
In a sensational comeback, Kansas City Chiefs came back from 10 points down to stun San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl on Sunday. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the star of the show for Kansas as he came up with a stunning show in the 4th and final quarter of the game. The 31-20 win also ends a 50-year-long drought for the Chiefs who last won the Super Bowl in 1970.
Kenin wins her maiden Grand Slam title
America’s 21-year-old Sofia Kenin stunned Garbine Muguruza in the final to win her maiden Australian Open title. Kenin lot the opening set but came back stronger to beat the current world number 1 and win the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The 21-year-old Russian born tennis star is the youngest to win the Australian Open since Maria Sharapova in 2008. Kenin’s previous best finish at a Grand Slam was a 4th round loss at the 2019 French Open.
Djokovic beats Thiem to win Australian Open
Novak Djokovic had a perfect weekend as he first beat Dominic Thiem to win the Australian Open and then replaced Rafael Nadal as the new number 1 in Men’s tennis. Djoko won the match 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in an epic clash vs Thiem in the final on Sunday. This was his 8th Australian Open title and his 17th slam overall as he is now 3 titles behind the legendary Roger Federer who has won 20 Grand Slams.
India thrash New Zealand for a series whitewash
New Zealand once again were on self-destruct mode as they lost the 5th & final T20 of the series vs India. Chasing 164 to win, the Kiwis were in control but lost wickets in a hurry to fall short by just 7 runs. This was India’s first series whitewash in T20s and became the first-ever team to win a 5-match T20 series too. After the shortest format, the two teams now will play a 3-match One Day International series which starts on Wednesday.
Formula E race canceled in China due to Coronavirus
Coronavirus has forced the Formula E authorities to cancel their race in China. The all-electric car race was supposed to be held in Sanya which is around 1000 miles from Wuhan, the epicentre of the deadly virus which has claimed close to 400 lives in China. This isn’t the first sporting event affected by the virus outbreak as the China Open badminton tournament too was cancelled earlier.
Tottenham crush City to give Liverpool a bigger lead
Tottenham produced some brilliant football as they outplayed defending Premier League Champions Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday. Steven Bergwijn & Son Heung Min scored the two goals on the night as Spurs reached the 5th spot in the league which reignites their top 4 finish hopes. Tottenham’s win was good news for league leaders Liverpool who now enjoy a 22 point lead over 2nd placed Manchester City.
